Installation Instructions

installationThe Return-to-Center Mailbox Post System can be installed in 30-minutes or less by one person, usually with no digging, and requires only a few ordinary household tools. Reading the instructions will probably take longer than the actual installation, but will ensure a successful installation and a properly functioning mailbox post that will “Get out of the way!” from external forces and then automatically "Return-to-Center”.

Installation Instructions for the Return-to-Center Mailbox Post System

Note:  Call 811 before auguring the Ground Post into the ground to verify that there are no underground cables, wires, or gas lines where you intend to install your mailbox post.

1. Using the 5/8-inch Steel Rod, auger the Ground Post (Part 1) into the ground approximately 24-inches (the depth can be monitored by placing a rubber band 24-inches from the bottom of the Ground Post).  For best results, the Ground Post should be vertical or leaning toward the road slightly as the “Return-to-Center” feature will be impaired if the Ground Post is leaning sideways or away from road.

2.  Place the Ground Post Extension (Part 3) on top of the Ground Post with the attached Roller Collar Assembly located directly opposite (180 degrees) the desired direction of the mailbox.  Before you seat the Ground Post Extension firmly in place, measure from the ground up to the Roller Collar and add 16 inches.  This will be the approximate finished height to the bottom of the mailbox if the base of the Ground Post is at the same level as the road surface.  If height is not correct, adjust the depth of the Ground Pipe accordingly before seating the Ground Post Extension firmly and permanently.  The preferred distance from the road surface to the bottom of the mailbox is 42-46 inches.

Note: You may want to apply a light coat of white grease, lithium grease or other suitable lubricant to what will be the contact points on the Ground Post Extension prior to completing step #3.

3.  Now install the Rotating Self-Centering Pipe Assembly (Part 4) over the Ground Post Extension.  The notch on the backside of the Rotating Self-Centering Pipe should come to rest on the Roller Collar Assembly of the Ground Post Extension.

4.  Place the Mailbox Mounting Arm with the attached Mailbox Mounting Bracket (Part 5) onto the Receiver Post at the bottom of the Rotating Self-Centering Pipe Assembly.  Check the vertical alignment of the Mailbox Mounting Arm with that of the Ground Post.   When satisfied with the correct orientation, firmly set the Mailbox Mounting Arm onto the Receiver Post of the Rotating Self-Centering Pipe Assembly.

Note:  If provided, attach the Newspaper Tube Mounting Bracket with hardware provided but do not mount the newspaper tube yet.  Position the Newspaper Tube Mounting Bracket in the desired location.  We have provided two holes on the left side and in the middle of the Mailbox Mounting Bracket for use in securing the Newspaper Tube Mounting Bracket.

 5.  Install the Mailbox (Part 6) using the four bolts provided. Mount your Newspaper Tube to the Newspaper Tube Mounting Bracket now.

Note:   Other accessories may now be added to your system.

 6.  Test the operation of your new Return-to-Center Mailbox Post System.  If the Mailbox does not always “Return-to-Center,” check the Ground Post to be sure it is vertical or slightly forward but not leaning backwards or sideways.

Your Return-to-Center Mailbox Post System was constructed with quality materials and should provide many years of trouble free service.
